Brian Ricketts

After an apprenticeship in the aerospace industry, with Dowty and Boeing, Brian Ricketts joined GEC Alstom in 1987 where he was responsible for dynamic modelling of power systems. In 1997, he joined UK Coal as a project engineer to work on a new integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) coal-fired power plant at Kellingley in the UK; this included some political lobbying to secure the supportive legislative framework promised by the incoming government. He joined the International Energy Agency in 2005 as a coal analyst working in the Energy Diversification Division of the Energy Markets and Security Directorate, spending time in China in 2007/2008 to author the IEA’s “Cleaner Coal in China” publication. In August 2010, Mr. Ricketts was appointed Secretary-General of EURACOAL – the European Association for Coal and Lignite (www.euracoal.eu). He is a chartered mechanical engineer with degrees from Loughborough and Coventry universities in the UK and holds an MBA from the Open University.

Automotive vehicles, mechanical engineering, general and automotive mechatronics, combustion engines, electric and hybrid drive systems in vehicles, exhaust emissions, exhaust gas cleaning.

Short CV:

Marcin Noga has been working at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Krakow University of Technology since December 2004. He is currently employed as a university professor at the Department of Automotive Vehicles. In 2010, he received a doctoral degree and in 2020 a postdoctoral degree in the discipline of mechanical engineering. He has been working as an academic teacher since February 2014. Previously, he participated in the implementation of research projects financed by the European Commission, as well as by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. He also worked as an independent expert of the European Commission in the field of substantive evaluation of projects submitted to the Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe programs. His scientific interests are focused mainly on issues related to electronic control of combustion engines, as well as hybrid, electric and hydrogen drive systems of automotive vehicles.

He is the author and co-author of 61 scientific publications and co-author of 1 patent. He was the co-editor of 1 scientific monograph. He actively participated in several scientific conferences Dr hab. inż. Marcin Noga has actively participated in the work of the organizing and scientific committees of several conferences, such as KONMOT, International Congress on Combustion Engines, and International Conference on Mechanical, Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering 2021, 2022 and 2023.

Vivek Bhatia

Managing Director & CEO of TKIL Industries Pvt. Ltd. (formerly known as thyssenkrupp Industries India Pvt. Ltd.)

Vivek Bhatia is the MD and CEO of TKIL Industries India Pvt. Ltd., a diversified industrial business covering a portfolio of capital goods businesses spanning Mining, Cement, Power Plants & Boilers, Sugar Plants along with a large service business that includes asset management/O&M. TKIL has been in existence for over 75 years in the country, with projects and equipment suppliers all over the world. Vivek has been Managing Director &CEO of TKIL since 1st January, 2019. Passionate about innovation and application of new technologies in industry, Vivek has driven digitalization and sustainability topics aggressively at TKIL. Prior to this role, he was CEO Asia Pacific at thyssenkrupp, based in Singapore,driving group activities for all thyssenkrupp companies in the region. Prior to this, he was the Head of Strategy, Markets and Development for the Asia Pacific region, based in Singapore.

Prior to roles at thyssenkrupp, Vivek was with The Boston Consulting Group. In 2013, he was awarded a BCG Olympics Gold Medalfor the most insightful and impactful client work in the Asia region.  Prior to BCG, he worked as a design engineer for refineries andpipelines at Engineers India Limited. Apart from his full time role at TKIL, Vivek is the Chairman of Mining, Construction and Equipment Division (MCED) of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), member of the FICCI Power Committee, member of the FICCI Bio EnergyCommittee, member of the National Executive Committee of Indian Chamber of Commerce and member of the National Executive Committee of MCCIA. He is Chairman of the Audit and Risk Management Committees and is a Non-Executive Independent Director onthe board of GMM Pfaudler, a global business listed in Indian stock markets.

Vivek has extensive business experience across multiple sectors including Cement and building materials, mining, metals & mineral processing, oil and gas, renewable energy equipment, power equipment (production as well as T&D), engineered/capital goods and sugar.  He has worked extensively on a range of business topics spanning strategy, operations improvement, organization growth/diversification, joint ventures, PMI, carve-outs, technology licensing/transfers, business turnaround/ transformation, working capital management, operations design and re-engineering, organization design and performance management systems.

Vivek holds an MBA (from IIM Calcutta, with a focus on Strategy & Corporate Finance), M. Tech. (Gold Medalist from IIT Delhi in Energy & Environmental Management) and B.E. (with honours from University of Delhi in Mechanical Engineering).

Zdzisław Bik

Marek Warzecha

Marek Warzecha, Ph.D., professor of MSc.

Rector of Częstochowa University of Technology for the term 2024 – 2028

From 1995 to 2000, he studied at the Faculty of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering at Częstochowa University of Technology. In 2000, he received a master’s degree in engineering in the field of extractive metallurgy and then began doctoral studies at his home faculty. During his doctoral studies, he completed a 3-month research internship at the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics in Belgium and a 2-week internship at the Groupe Belgedu College Europeen de Technologie in France. In addition, he completed a six-month industrial internship at Huta “Zawiercie” S.A. and a one-year internship at “Huta Stali” ISD Częstochowa. In 2005, he defended with distinction his doctoral dissertation entitled. “Gas mixing and chemical homogenization of steel in ladle furnace”. From 2007 to 2010, he worked as a researcher at the Institut fur Industrieofenbau und Warmetechnik at the RWTH Aachen University in Germany, after returning home, from March 2010 as an assistant professor in the Department of Extraction and Recycling of Metals at MSc. In 2012, the Department of Process Engineering, Materials Science and Applied Physics held the postdoctoral colloquium of Dr. Mark Warzecha, Eng. The Faculty Council unanimously awarded him a postdoctoral degree in technical sciences in the discipline of metallurgy. For his scientific and organizational activities carried out in 2003-2023, he was honored with individual and team awards from the Rector of Częstochowa University of Technology, including an individual award for an outstanding doctoral dissertation (2nd place in the ranking). Since December 2013, he has been employed as an associate professor at Częstochowa University of Technology.

He has focused his scientific and research interests on issues related to metal fabrication and recycling and hot-dip galvanizing. He has participated in more than a dozen research, research and development projects and implementation projects, funded both by state institutions (Ministry of Science and Higher Education, National Science Center, National Research and Development Center, Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) and by private companies (ThyssenKrupp Nirosta GmbH, ThyssenKrupp Steel AG, CMC S.A.). In several of these he was a manager, and in many he was task leader or prime contractor. He has promoted two PhDs in technical sciences. He is the promoter of three doctoral students.

In his teaching career, he has taught courses in metallurgy, fluid mechanics and management and production engineering, including in English and German. In addition, he taught at the Doctoral School in the field of commercialization.

During the 2016-2020 term, he served as Vice-Dean for Innovation and Development, was a member of the Senate of the Częstochowa University of Technology, a member of the Council of the Faculty of Production Engineering and Materials Technology, a member of the Senate Committees on Science and Foreign Cooperation, and chairman of the Faculty Teams on Faculty Promotion and Cooperation with External Institutions. In 2018-2019, he served as Head of the Department of Extraction and Recycling of Metals, from 2019-2023, he served as Director of the Technology Transfer Center, from January 2023 to August 31, 2024, he served as Vice-Rector for Development.

In 2024, he was elected to the Committee on Materials Engineering and Metallurgy of the Polish Academy of Sciences for the term 2024-2027, and was appointed to the Scientific Council of Yoshi Innovation S.A.

Jarosław Zagórowski

Director of GIG-PIB

Jarosław Zagórowski graduated from two faculties at the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice: mechanics, technology of machines and production processes at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Technology, and business management and industrial marketing at the Faculty of Organization and Management. In 2004, he completed doctoral studies at the Faculty of Mining at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow.

From 2007 to 2015, he was president of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa S.A., then president of WASKO S.A. and Huta Bankowa Sp. z o.o. and advisor to the board of directors of the companies: Carboautomatics and KPMG Advisory.

He has extensive experience working in government administration. He began his career at the Ministry of Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries, then worked for a number of years at the Ministry of Economy. Among other things, he was an advisor to the undersecretary of state on matters related to mining, energy, gas, liquid fuels and metallurgy; he was also responsible for the implementation of industrial policy in the metallurgy, coking, energy and non-energy minerals mining and national energy security industries. From 2002 to 2003, as Deputy Director of the Department of Industry Restructuring, he was responsible for the coal and non-energy minerals mining sector. From 2003 he was Minister Counselor in the Department of Energy Security at the Ministry of Economy, Labor and Social Policy.

Co-founder and long-time member of the Board of Directors of Central Europe Energy Partners (CEEP), an organization representing Polish and Central European companies in Brussels from the energy sector and energy-intensive industries. Member of the Coal Industry Advisory Board (CIAB), the Board of the Prof. Zbigniew Religa Foundation for Cardiac Surgery Development and the Polish Economic Society in Katowice. Advisor to the President of the Board of Employers of Poland, member of several supervisory boards of large industrial companies. In 2010 he was awarded, among others, the title “For the one who changes Polish industry”, and in 2012 with the Manager Award and many state awards.
