He is a researcher at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Cracow University of Technology.
He graduated from the Cracow University of Technology with a specialization in “cars and tractors” in 1977. At this university, he defended his doctorate in 1986, and in 2007 he received a postdoctoral degree. Since 2013, he has served as director of the Institute of Motor Vehicles and Combustion Engines, and currently heads the Department of Motor Vehicles at the Cracow University of Technology. He has held numerous scientific and research internships at foreign centers, including: the AVL Institute Graz (Austria), Technische Universität Dresden, FEV Institute Aachen, Ruhr Universität Bochum (Germany).
The circle of his scientific and research interests is defined by three groups of problems.
The first group of his research involves the search for solutions and systems to reduce toxic emissions from transportation vehicles. The second area concerns the use of hydrogen and industrial and biological gases for energy purposes.
The third area is marked by research on new vehicle propulsion systems, including operational research on hybrid vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
Prof. Marek Brzeżanski is the author of more than 150 publications and has promoted 8 PhDs in technical sciences. Since 2003 he has been a member of the board of directors of the Polish Scientific Society of Combustion Engines, and since 2011 he has been a member of the Scientific Council of the Institute for Automotive Research and Development BOSMAL in Bielsko-Biała. In 2019-24, he was vice-chairman of the Program Council for Air Protection in the City of Krakow, acting under the Mayor of Krakow. He is a signatory of the so-called “Sectoral Agreement for the Development of the Hydrogen Economy,” a member of the “Silesia-Malopolska Hydrogen Valley,” and a member of the Working Group “Use of Hydrogen,” operating under the Ministry of Climate and Environment.
